About Jawai Leopard Safari

A Jawai Leopard Safari is one of Rajasthan’s most unique wildlife experiences, set in a landscape unlike any other. This region, with its stunning granite hills, ancient caves, open scrublands, and calm waters of Jawai Bandh, hosts one of the highest densities of wild leopards in India. Jawai stands out because of the unique bond between the leopards and the Rabari community. They have lived together for generations, showing deep respect and harmony.

All safaris run in private open-top gypsies. No shared vehicles. No strangers. No compromises on when you stop or move on.

Morning Safari · 5:00 AM – 8:00 AM

  •     Best overall sighting odds, leopards returning from night hunts are still active
  •     Cool temperatures, quiet hills, pre-dawn Rajasthan light
  •     Ideal for: first-timers, families, anyone prioritising wildlife encounters

Evening Safari · 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM

  •     Granite turns amber as the sun angles behind the ridges, gold-hour photography
  •     Leopards re-emerge toward waterholes as heat fades
  •     Ideal for: photographers, couples, those already done a morning safari

  • Book in advance, always : Jawai’s peak season (October–March) and weekends fill up fast, and gypsies are limited.
  • WhatsApp is the fastest route: Gojawai takes bookings over a quick WhatsApp message
  • Online booking: Also available through GoJawai websites for those who prefer a formal confirmation and payment trail.
  • Specify your slot: morning vs. evening – at the time of booking, since gypsies are allocated per shift.

A little preparation goes a long way on an open-jeep safari:

  • Light layers: mornings can be surprisingly chilly, even in a state known for its heat
  • Neutral-coloured clothing: avoid bright colours that stand out against the rocky landscape
  • Sunscreen, cap, and sunglasses: especially for the evening safari
  • Binoculars: for spotting leopards before they’re within camera range
  • Camera with a zoom lens: a 200 mm+ lens is ideal for wildlife photography here
  • Water bottle and light snacks: Safaris can run longer than expected
  • Power bank: for those who’ll be shooting photos and videos non-stop

By Road

  • From Udaipur:~140 km via NH27 through Gogunda and Pindwara (2.5–3 hrs). Scenic alternative: route via Ranakpur _  slightly longer but lets you stop at the Jain temples en route.
  • From Jodhpur: ~160 km via NH62 through Pali and Falna (~3 hrs). Most direct and least congested approach.
  • From Jaipur: ~350–395 km via Kishangarh, Ajmer, Beawar, Sojat, and Pali. Long drive, most recommend an overnight break in Pali.
  • From Ahmedabad: ~290 km via NH68 to Palanpur, then NH62. Monsoon alternative: via Sirohi and Pindwara for better road quality.
  • From Mount Abu: ~90–120 km. An underrated add-on for travelers already in the Abu Hills.
  • From Mumbai: ~800 km via NH48 through Ahmedabad, then NH62. Almost always broken overnight.

By Rail

  • Jawai Bandh (JWB): primary station on the Ahmedabad–Ajmer line, closest to most safari camps.
  • Mori Bera: rarely mentioned, but often the actual closest halt for camps on the Bera side of the reserve.
  • Falna (~35 km): better connected for travelers arriving from Jaipur or Delhi, with more frequent long-distance trains.
  • Khimel, Birolia, Marwar Bhinmal: Smaller halts are useful for Jodhpur-side connections; confirm pickup availability with your camp in advance.

By Air

  • Udaipur (UDR): ~140 km / 2.5–3 hrs. Connected to Mumbai, Delhi, and Ahmedabad.
  • Jodhpur (JDH): ~160–170 km / ~3 hrs.
  • Ahmedabad (AMD): ~270 km / under 5 hrs. Best option for Gujarat-based travelers.

October – March (Peak Season)

  •     Cool mornings, excellent visibility, migratory birds at Jawai Dam
  •     Best overall – but busiest; book well in advance for weekends

April – June (Summer)

  •     Hot days, but leopards concentrate at waterholes – surprisingly high sighting density
  •     Morning safaris only; fewer tourists; no advance booking usually needed

July – September (Monsoon – Most Underrated)

  •     Granite hills turn lush green; barely any crowds
  •     Safaris run with minor weather adjustments; leopards active
  •     A local’s Jawai – authentic, unhurried, and genuinely beautiful

Best month for first-timers: November or February, peak season quality with meaningfully fewer crowds than October or December.

  • Pickup and drop-off available directly from your hotel, resort, or campsite, no navigating unfamiliar roads or hunting for a meeting point.
  • Our team arrives 10–15 minutes before safari time so you’re settled, briefed, and ready before the drive begins.
  • After the safari, we drop you back to your accommodation or any chosen point within the Jawai/Bera region.

Nothing in the wild is 100% guaranteed – but Jawai comes remarkably close. Open terrain, high leopard density, and a live tracker network mean most safaris end in at least one sighting, with odds stacked heavily in your favor compared to anywhere else in India.
